Frameless Glass Partitions for Offices
Glass divides a floor plan without giving up daylight. Our frameless partitions are 1/2 inch tempered glass with polished edges, set in U-channel at the head and the floor with glass-to-glass joints, so the wall reads as one clean line of glass.
Where the drawings call for aluminum-framed office fronts instead, we install those too. For exterior aluminum storefronts, see aluminum storefronts.
Office Glass Walls and Office Fronts
Full-height glass office fronts, private office fronts, fixed glass walls and sidelites, single and double frameless swing doors, and top-hung sliding doors, in 1/2 inch tempered glass set in U-channel.
Where the design calls for framing, we also install aluminum-framed office fronts and partitions, with mullions and transoms and 1/4 inch tempered glass.
Conference Room Glass Walls
Glass keeps a conference room open to the floor and full of daylight, and the door still closes for a private call or a client meeting.
We install full-height glass walls on one or more sides of the room with a single or double frameless door. For privacy, a frosted band at seated eye level is the usual choice; a partial band or a fully frosted panel works where a room needs more cover. Privacy film can be changed later, while acid-etched glass is a permanent finish.
On a quieter corridor the door can hang on hydraulic patch fittings, so the glass runs clean to the ceiling without a header.
The door can swing or slide; a sliding door on a top-mounted track suits rooms where a swing door would cut into the corridor. Where a room needs to switch between open and private, smart privacy glass turns from clear to frosted on demand; see Smart Privacy Glass below.
We confirm the glass, privacy finish and hardware for each room with you before anything is ordered.

Glass Office Doors and Hardware
Single and double frameless swing doors hang on top and bottom patch fittings, with ladder pulls and a lock in the patch fitting or rail. Top-hung sliding doors run on an exposed or concealed track where a swing door would block a corridor.
Two ways to close a frameless door: a 4 inch to 4-1/2 inch header with a concealed closer, which suits any opening including higher-traffic doors, or hydraulic patch fittings, covered below.
Finishes. Matte black, brushed stainless, polished stainless and satin brass. Locks are mechanical glass-door locks in the bottom or floor position, center patch locks, or magnetic locks where a door is on access control. We furnish and install the hardware and leave the wiring accessible for your access-control professional to connect and commission.
Adding one door to an existing office? See Glass Office Doors for Existing Offices.
Sliding Glass Office Partitions
A sliding glass door hangs from a track above the opening and runs along the glass wall instead of swinging into the room or the corridor. It suits conference rooms, private offices and narrow hallways where a swing door would get in the way.
The door slides alongside fixed 1/2 inch tempered panels set in U-channel, so the whole front reads as one glass wall. The track can be left exposed, with the rollers as part of the design, or concealed.
Because the door stays in the line of the glass wall, it needs no swing clearance. Desks, chairs and a conference table can sit closer to the opening, which helps in smaller rooms and along busy corridors.
The same privacy options work on a sliding front: a frosted band at seated eye level, a partial or full frost, privacy film or acid-etched glass.
We field verify the opening and confirm the track, glass and pulls with you before anything is ordered. Pulls come in matte black, brushed stainless, polished stainless and satin brass.
All-Glass Entrances and Herculite Doors
All-glass entrances and Herculite-style doors are a product line of their own for us, for shopping malls, office building lobbies, tenant suites and other commercial buildings. The doors are tempered glass on patch fittings or top and bottom rails, often with frameless sidelites, instead of a full aluminum frame.
Common layouts include a single door or a pair, with or without frameless sidelites, at a tenant suite, a building lobby or a mall entrance, and an inner and outer set of doors forming a vestibule. Doors can hang on patch fittings or on top and bottom rails from a header with a concealed closer, and pivot doors are available where the design calls for them.
Hardware is chosen for the traffic and the building: panic devices where the occupancy requires them, low-energy automatic operators with a push-plate or sensor, and locks in the rail, the patch fitting or the floor.
For systems, hardware, photos and specifications, see our All-Glass Entrances & Herculite Doors page. For aluminum-framed entrances, see aluminum storefronts.
Office Build-Outs and Tenant Improvements
Office glass usually goes in during a build-out, so we work from the drawings and to the general contractor’s schedule.
- Pricing from architectural drawings, specifications and bid documents, or from a site visit when there are no drawings yet.
- After award, field verification of every opening once framing, ceilings and flooring are in, so the glass is made to the finished dimensions.
- Glass, hardware and finishes confirmed with you before anything is ordered.
- Installation and final adjustment.
- On access-controlled doors, we furnish and install the lock hardware and leave the wiring accessible for your access-control contractor to connect and commission.
We work with general contractors, tenant-improvement contractors, architects, designers, property managers and office tenants across Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and Montgomery County, MD.
Hydraulic Patch Fittings and Doors Without a Header
A hydraulic patch fitting puts the closer inside the bottom patch fitting of the door itself, not in a header above it and not in the floor. The opening can lose the header entirely, so the glass runs clean to the head and the door reads as part of the wall, with nothing cut into a finished slab.
We use them on private offices and conference rooms. For a main entry, a corridor door or anything on a busy floor we specify the 4 inch to 4-1/2 inch header with a concealed closer instead.
Glass and Hardware Options
We confirm glass and hardware for every opening before ordering. The options we use most:
| Glass | 1/2 inch tempered clear glass standard; 3/4 inch for certain applications; low-iron extra-clear available |
|---|---|
| Fixed panels | Top and bottom U-channel with glass-to-glass joints |
| Framed office fronts | Aluminum framing with mullions and transoms; 1/4 inch tempered glass |
| Doors | Single and double swing doors on patch fittings or rails; top-hung sliding doors |
| Closing | 4 to 4-1/2 inch header with a concealed closer for any opening; hydraulic patch fittings for private offices and conference rooms |
| Locks | Mechanical glass-door locks in the bottom or floor position or center patch; mag locks for access-controlled doors |
| Finishes | Matte black, brushed stainless, polished stainless, satin brass |
Privacy Options
We confirm the privacy finish for every panel before ordering. The options:
| Frosted band | A frosted band at seated eye level. The room stays open above and below it. |
|---|---|
| Partial or full frost | A taller band, or a fully frosted panel where a room needs more cover. |
| Privacy film | Applied to the surface of the glass. It can be changed or removed later. |
| Acid-etched glass | Etched into the glass itself. A permanent finish that cannot peel. |
Smart Privacy Glass
Smart privacy glass switches from clear to frosted on demand. With the power on the glass is clear; switch it off and it turns frosted, so a conference room or executive office goes private without blinds, film or a second door.
We install InstaClear switchable privacy glass from Clear Motion Glass. It is laminated glass with a PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) layer inside: with voltage applied the liquid crystals line up and the glass is clear; without it they scatter light and the glass turns frosted.
In the frosted state the glass also works as a projection surface for a presentation or a video.
Like all PDLC glass, it looks clearest viewed straight on, with a slight haze at sharp viewing angles. The glass runs from a transformer, and your electrician provides the power connection.
Custom Printed and Branded Glass
Logos, graphics, patterns, door signs, office identification and privacy designs printed directly on the glass. Send your artwork or describe the design you want.
We use Alice® direct-to-glass printing from General Glass International (GGI). The design is printed with ceramic frit ink that fuses into the glass during tempering, so it is permanent and resists UV, fading and scratching.
Printing runs up to 720 dpi, fine enough for small type, fine lines and detailed images, on tempered, laminated or low-iron glass. Choose a custom design or one of GGI’s ready-to-print patterns, adjusted for color and scale. Artwork can come as PDF, TIFF, JPG, EPS or BMP files, and multi-panel designs are printed with small identification tags so each panel goes in the right place.
How the Project Runs
PLANS OR SITE VISIT → QUOTE → FIELD VERIFICATION → GLASS & HARDWARE SELECTION → INSTALLATION
We quote from architectural plans, drawings, specifications and bid documents, or from a site visit. Once the job is awarded and framing, ceilings and flooring are in, we field verify every opening so the glass is made to the real dimensions. Glass and hardware are confirmed with you before ordering, then installed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you quote from our plans?
Yes. Send drawings, specifications or bid documents and we will price the layout. Once the job is awarded and framing, ceilings and flooring are in, we field verify every opening.
Frosted film or acid-etched glass?
Film is applied to the surface of the glass and can be removed or changed later. Acid-etched glass is etched into the glass itself, so it is permanent and cannot peel. Either one can be a full panel or a band.
Can a glass office door slide instead of swing?
Yes. A top-hung sliding door runs on an exposed or concealed track along the glass wall, which suits rooms where a swing door would block a corridor or reach the table.
Can a glass office door be locked?
Yes. Mechanical glass-door locks sit in the bottom patch fitting or rail, the floor position or a center patch lock. A door on access control can take a mag lock; we furnish and install the lock hardware and leave the wiring accessible for your access-control contractor to connect and commission.
Do you do aluminum-framed office fronts?
Yes. Aluminum-framed office fronts and partitions are part of our interior work, with mullions and transoms and 1/4 inch tempered glass. Exterior aluminum storefronts and framed entrances are on our aluminum storefronts page.
Do you also install all-glass entrances?
Yes. All-glass entrances and Herculite-style doors for shopping malls, office buildings and other commercial buildings are covered on our All-Glass Entrances & Herculite Doors page.
Do you work in Washington, DC and Maryland?
Yes. We install office glass across Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and Montgomery County, MD.

Wonderful experience! We have a very oddly sized shower, and the team at Modern Glass did an amazing job removing the old framed door, and then installing a beautiful new frameless shower door. There was some very minor leaking along the bottom of the door after the first use of the shower, but that was to be expected, and Modern Glass came out first thing in the morning to make the needed adjustments, and everything is good to go! Great customer service, and excellent professionalism. Thanks!Posted on Google![]()
