What Is an All Glass Herculite Entrance

An all glass entrance uses thick tempered glass with patch fittings or top and bottom rails instead of a full aluminum frame, so the doorway reads as open glass from the street or the lobby. Herculite is the brand name that became shorthand for this type of frameless door, and we install all glass doors of this type from several hardware and glass suppliers.

Doors, sidelites and transoms are 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch tempered glass, ordered to the finished opening after the floor and door head are complete, then hung and adjusted on site.

Single and Double Herculite Doors

Single doors for suite entrances and interior openings, pairs for lobbies and main entrances, with fixed frameless sidelites on one or both sides and a clear transom above. Sidelites join the doors glass-to-glass with a strike jamb, and everything sits in a header channel at the top and a channel at the floor.

Layouts include a door with sidelites, full glass vestibules, and interior all glass doors for suites and conference rooms. If an exterior opening calls for a framed system or insulated glass, see Aluminum Storefronts and Commercial Entrance Doors. See Office Glass Partitions & Interior Glass Walls for glass walls and doors inside the office.

How All Glass Doors Hang: Closers, Pivots and Patch Fittings

There are two ways to hang an all glass door. A header at the top with a concealed closer carries the door on top and bottom rails, which is the usual choice for lobbies and main entrances. A floor closer set flush in the floor works with top and bottom patch fittings and keeps the head of the opening clear. The closer is concealed in the floor or overhead frame, depending on the selected system. The patch fittings or rails carry the pivot and the lock with ladder pulls or push bars to match.

Where an entrance needs a push-plate or sensor, we install low-energy automatic operators on all glass doors as well.

Hardware finishes are brushed stainless, polished stainless, matte black and satin brass. We confirm closers, locks and handle style with you before ordering, and we set the pivots, hang the doors and adjust the closers so the doors swing and latch correctly.

All Glass Vestibules

A vestibule sets a second pair of glass doors behind the first, creating an entry space between the two sets while the entrance still reads as clear glass from the sidewalk. We build both sets in the same 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch tempered glass with matching rails, pulls and finishes, so the two sets read as one piece of work.

The inner doors can carry their own locks and access control, which lets you hold a suite secure while the outer doors stay open through the business day.

All Glass Entrances for Shopping Malls and Retail Stores

Retail tenants use all glass entrances to keep the store open to view from the mall concourse or the sidewalk. We install single doors and pairs with frameless sidelites for mall storefronts, retail centers and street-level shops, and all glass vestibules where a main entrance needs a second set of doors.

Locks sit in the bottom rail or the patch fitting, and panic hardware goes on where the occupancy requires it. We quote from plans or a site visit for tenants, landlords and general contractors.

Office Building Lobbies and Tenant Entrances

In office buildings, all glass doors go at the main lobby and at tenant suites off the elevator lobby or corridor. For main entrances we install pairs with sidelites, vestibules and low-energy automatic operators with push-plate or sensor activation, hung from a header with a concealed closer or on floor closers.

For secured lobbies and suites we furnish and install mag locks and electric strikes and leave the wiring accessible for your access-control professional. We work with general contractors, property managers, landlords and tenants across Northern Virginia, Washington, DC and Montgomery County, MD.

I had an absolutely outstanding experience with Modern Glass Designs! From beginning to end, everything was handled professionally, and the level of customer service exceeded my expectations. I especially want to recognize Caroll Koon, the Sales Manager, who was truly exceptional. She went above and beyond to make sure everything was handled smoothly. Her professionalism, knowledge, patience, and genuine dedication to customer satisfaction really stood out. She made the entire experience comfortable and stress-free, and it was clear that she genuinely cares about her customers. It’s not every day you come across someone who combines such a high level of professionalism with kindness and personal attention. Caroll is truly an asset to Modern Glass Designs, and the company is fortunate to have someone like her on its team. I highly recommend Modern Glass Designs to anyone looking for excellent service, quality work, and a team that genuinely values its customers. Thank you, Caroll, for making this such a wonderful experience. You are simply the best!

We compared four companies to craft our new custom shower glass doors. Not only was Modern glass the best warranty and cost, their customer service (Caroll) is outstanding! They were so easy to work and communicate with.... a little too good, I was waiting for the catch. Today was installation day and the team was great! Friendly, tidy and efficient! No Catch- just a local family business who honors their mission: "Give every customer beautiful, well-built glass, installed right, with honest advice and clear communication from the first call to the final walkthrough."

Bought glass here on several occasions for desktops, night stands and mirrors. Always best price (compared to online & area stores) and good service. I don’t even try anywhere else anymore.

Wonderful experience! We have a very oddly sized shower, and the team at Modern Glass did an amazing job removing the old framed door, and then installing a beautiful new frameless shower door. There was some very minor leaking along the bottom of the door after the first use of the shower, but that was to be expected, and Modern Glass came out first thing in the morning to make the needed adjustments, and everything is good to go! Great customer service, and excellent professionalism. Thanks!

Modern Glass and Shower Doors Inc did a great job changing my old bathroom shower door to the new glass one. They were very clean and removed the old one carefully so they didn’t break the tiles. Carol is very nice and makes sure that the job is done correctly. I strongly recommend them.

We needed a basic frameless shower door in a small bathroom. The entire process took less than 2 weeks from estimate to installation. The estimator arrived on time as did the installers, who were also very efficient in completing the job. Very impressed!

Our shower needed to be refreshed and Modern Glass provided a competitive quote which we went with. Angel did a great job measuring the shower and the glass was installed less than a week later. The shower looks so much better. Overall Modern Glass provided excellent communication and I highly recommend them for anything you need done.
