Glass Built Around Your Steam Shower
A steam shower needs glass that closes the space in. That usually means taking the glass up to the ceiling, or closing the gap above the door and panels with a glass transom. We measure the finished opening and recommend the layout that suits your ceiling, your door and the way you want to use the shower.
Glass to the Ceiling
The door and panels can run all the way up to a flat, tiled ceiling, so the glass closes the full height of the shower with no open gap above it. It gives the shower a clean, built-in look from floor to ceiling.
The door and panels are frameless tempered glass, sized to the finished ceiling height. We measure once the tile and ceiling are finished, then size each panel and the door to that opening, so the glass is made to the room as it was actually built.
When glass to the ceiling isn’t the right fit for your layout, a glass transom closes the space instead. We recommend the option that suits your shower at the site measure.
Fixed or Opening Transom
Where the glass stops short of the ceiling, a glass transom closes the space above the door and panels. Most of the steam showers we install include a transom.
Fixed transom. The transom stays in place as a permanent panel of glass above the door and panels.
Opening transom. The transom can be opened to let steam out after a session, then closed again for the next one.
We recommend an opening transom, but it’s your choice. Either one is measured and made for your opening.
Glass and Hardware Options
Steam enclosures we install have used 3/8″ or 1/2″ clear tempered glass, and the thickness is chosen for your layout at the site measure. Low-iron glass is available if you want clearer glass, with less of the green tint that shows at the edges of standard clear glass.
Hinges, clamps, handles and towel bars come in the same finishes as our other frameless showers, including chrome, brushed nickel, matte black and satin brass. EnduroShield glass coating is offered as an option.
We use the same door seals and bottom sweeps as on our regular frameless showers.
What Other Trades Handle
The steam generator, the waterproofing and vapor barrier, the ceiling construction and the tile are handled by other trades. We measure once that work is finished, so the glass is made to the finished opening.

3. Select glass and hardware
Choose the layout, transom, glass and hardware finish.
4. Fabrication
Your glass is cut, tempered and prepared to your measurements.
5. Professional installation
Our own crew installs the enclosure, typically 7–10 business days after measurement.
